It's the same code base as was in 2.6.32 forward ported and packaged as
an external module. Do you have references to the feedback?

If you are in need of blktap2 functionality then you should try it for
yourself and report the bugs, otherwise your concerns can never go
away...

qemu can provide a disk backend but it is not very performant. xl will
use this by default if blktap2 is not available.

The future of blktap2 has been discussed on list several times (in short
someone needs to bolt a disk frontend onto the userspace part and remove
the need for the kernel component) but unless/until someone with a
requirement for blktap2 steps up to the plate we can't promise when that
will happen... I think it should be reasonably straight forward, it's
certainly not as deep voodoo kernel stuff as you might expect.
