With ATI VGA cards, you still need to patch Xen 4.2-unstable? I thought Tobia Geiger said that patches are not required? Thank you very much. -- Yours sincerely, Mr. Teo En Ming (Zhang Enming) Singapore On 28/03/2012 00:07, djmagee@xxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: -----Original Message----- From: xen-devel-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:xen-devel- bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Tobias Geiger Sent: Tuesday, March 27, 2012 10:54 AM To: Teo En Ming (Zhang Enming) Cc: xen-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; Ren,Yongjie; David TECHER; Zhang,Xiantao; xen-devel@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [Xen-devel] Dear Tobias Geiger,I Need Help with Xen VGA Passthrough to Windows 8 Consumer Preview/ XP (Xen 4.2-unstable) i can only say for sure that it works with a "Radeon HD 6970" - thats what i'm using. stay away from dual-gpu cards, they have a more complex pci-bus structure which may not work when passed-through. The newer 7XXX may also work, i also think i read something about 5XXX cards working - but don't take any older ones.I've had a working configuration for a few months now with a 4770.that said i can only tell for sure it works with the mentioned 6970 - simply because i haven't tested any other cards yet myself. regarding the patches - they should be the same, as he claims somewhere that he took mine and forward-ported them to a then recent xen version. With the ati card above you don't need any patches at all. none from david techer, none from ati. pure vanilla xen (4.X or unstable) is enough. However, this configuration lacks the VBIOS passthrough, so one needs to use VNC to install the drivers. There is an old patch floating around that does ATI bios passthrough, but it would need to be forward ported. That being said, I never cared too much, since I can't use my passthrough'd USB keyboard to do anything in the guest until an OS loads with USB support. Hmmm, actually, I wonder if seabios supports USB keyboards...Greetings Tobias Am Dienstag, 27. David Techer told me it's a NVIDIA driver issue, which I don't thinkso.I seriously wonder what's wrong with the glitch. I am using NVIDIA driver version 296.17 for Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Xen VGA Passthrough to Windows 8 Consumer Preview: I can watchYoutubevideos with audio/sound and surf the internet as well. But I justcan'trun 3d graphics benchmarks. Only 2d graphics benchmarks can be run. By the way, I have only recently bought this Palit NVIDIA Geforce8400GS at SGD$44. If I buy an ATI card, what would you recommend that is CHEAP? Must be PCI Express x16. Then do you think the Xen VGA Passthrough patches are necessary any more? Please refer to the computer hardware pricelist here http://www.fuwell.com.sg/uploads/misc/Fuwell240312.pdf and recommendmea cheap ATI card. Preferably SGD$50. Finally, Xen VGA Passthrough to Windows XP Home Edition also has the yellow exclamation mark glitch with NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS. With Xen 4.2-unstable. Thank you very much.Hi Teo, sorry to hear that it didn't help. Unfortunatly thats all the hints i'm able to give you - from now on you're out there alone so to speak :) Good luck - or (even on the danger of repeating myself:) just buyan ATIcard... I am now trying out your suggestion, i.e. expose the 4th memoryrange. When I refer to David Techer's official blog and his emails, heonlymention the first 3 memory ranges. When I asked David Techer what about the 4th memory range, he said nothing. Let's hope I get lucky and get the yellow exclamation mark withNVIDIAGeforce 8400 GS (ie Xen VGA Passthrough to Windows 8 ConsumerPreview*PARTIAL* success) FIXED. By the way, what is the problem with my Xen WIKI? Xen.org administrator Mr. Lars Kurth edited my Xen Wiki pages for me. If it works, I will have Xen VGA Passthrough Version 1.7documentationand FINAL as well. Thank you very much for reading through my documentation andgiving mesuggestions. I hope it works now.Dear Tobias Geiger, I have just exposed the 4th memory region, patched dsdt.asl, recompiledand reinstalled Xen 4.2-unstable but IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. Thereisstill a yellow exclamation mark besides NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS inXenVGA Passthrough to Windows 8 Consumer Preview. I still cannot run 3d graphics benchmarks. Only 2d graphicsbenchmarkscan run. Please read through my Xen VGA Passthrough Version 1.6documentationagain to see if there are any mistakes. Please. Please. Please. Iwantto fix that glitch. Any more ideas? I hope some expert engineers at Intel Corporation (Han Weidong,ZhangXiantao, and Ren Yongjie) can fix this glitch with Xen VGAPassthroughto Windows 8 Consumer Preview. They are after all the original authors/developers who wrote the Xen VGA Passthrough patches. ButHanWeidong has left Intel Corp, I think. He was still at Intel 3years ago.Thank you very much.
