I actually just made a patch to remove it entirely and tested it and its 
working. I'll send it in the next update.

Are there any xm/xend docs which could be updated to clearly state that this 
stuff doesn't work?

I'd also be happy with a patch which added a check and error message at the 
entry point (e.g. tools/python/xen/xm/create.py) without any attempt to root 
out the support from the underlying code.
