It fixed it (there was a deadlock there).

But the fix to the dead-lock exposed this bug.

One could say that 1/7 broke it because it never worked in the
first place, but now that it works (thanks to #1)  - it did not
work right?

Squashing the patches together is a bit too much I fear.
