Most tests were done on 4.4.3, but using newer version (stable-4.5, stable-4.6) doesn't help. Without any workaround enabled, it simply hangs, with -noexitboot it crashes (depending on -mapbs and efi=attr=uc the crash is slightly different). Below I attach one of such crash (with both -mapbs and efi=attr=uc enabled). Since this bug is quite common, and on some systems it will never be fixed in the firmware, I think the most reliable workaround would be to use SetVirtualAddressMap. Yes, this will break kexec, but at least system will start. Also on desktop systems (where apparently this bug is most common) I think very few people care about kexec... How hard would be to get SetVirtualAddressMap code working?
