It was originally a sort of "unit test" / "manually poke it" type utility
rather than end user usable functionality. That might have changed though
(or be in the process of doing so).

I'm not intending to make it into a end-user tool either though it could be now actually have some value for end-users doing cloning. For me it's just a reference implementation.
