Hello, all,

Have old Supermicro server with 55xx chipset, and tried to use it as
server for virtual machines.
System have only SATA2 onboard, so I've used spare Adaptec RAID
controller in HBA mode (Using ZFS, so no need to use it's hw RAID
capabilities).
Server is remote-controlled over IPMI (placed at colocation), so I
have cryptsetup and dropbear installed in initramfs.
OS is Debian Jessie 8.5.

Have tried both standard Jessie kernel (3.16), and backported (just
recompiled from .dsc) kernel from SID (4.6.2).
There are no difference in work with XEN - both always hang at Adaptec
adapter initialization.
Without XEN both are working (Except for extremely poor disk
performance in 3.16, but that's a different story, maybe related to
chipset bug).
Have tried XEN 4.4 (from Jessie) and 4.6 (compiled manually) - no difference.

While looking for solution, I've found this link:

This is article about broken 55xx chipset versions, and yes - it's
exactly the case.

Recommendation was to disable interrupt remapping for XEN and for
Linux kernel... but that does not work.

Also, I've tried to disable IOMMU completely (Both for kernel and for
Xen, as well as disable VT-d and IO/AT in BIOS) - and that does not
work either.

In general, I don't need IOMMU of VT-d, just need to run few Debian
VMs in HVM(preferable) or PV/PVH mode...

Situation looks very similar to some Marvell SATA controllers, which
are refusing to work with XEN as well... AFAIK, there is no solution
for it so far.

Does anyone have advice - how to make it working?
Or maybe there is recommended model of HBA/RAID controller, which are
known to work correctly with buggy 5520 chipset?
