This is mysterious to me.  Nothing in the upstream tree mentions
"runstatedir", according to git-grep.  I'm not sure how your 4.10~rc1
was constructed, though.

And runstatedir is surely something in /var, anyway.

Are you sure about the cause and effect here ?
