Irrespective of this, another thought here to come to a middle ground: What about restricting support for discontiguous memory maps to the BIGMEM case? At which point we might consider making BMI2 a prereq for that, eliminating the need for stub functions, and using alternatives just to replace PDEP/PEXT with MOV when possible.
