Re: [Xen-users] Xen 3.0 usb access on domU

I have a usb printer and I need to access it form domU.

I read many post about using PCI= in domU configuraion after hiding the device via grubin dom0.

This command seems to not function in xen 3.0.

PCI= is not supported and physdev_dom0_hide is ignored during boot.

What can I do?

These commands don't yet work in Xen 3.0 due to some restructuring of how PCI devices are handled. There's also work underway to enable individual USB devices to be passed through to domUs but this is not checked-in yet.

I'd suggest the most straightforward solution is to set up network access: e.g. run a CUPS server in dom0 and get any domUs that need printing access to use that.

If you *really* need direct USB access, you could downgrade to Xen 2.0.x and use PCI passthrough until the capabilities you need are in Xen 3.0. The Xen 2 branch is unlikely to see things like kernel updates, etc. now that people are using Xen 3.0.

Cheers,
Mark

I installed xen from binary over debian 3.1 stable and I use 2.6.12.6-xen in both dom0 and domU to have access to various modules.

Thanks,

Andrea Gelpi
