Just a FYI.

Newest versions of MD has "bitmap based intent logging", which should
reduce rebuild times for big arrays drastically.

After having used both, I trust MD over hardware controllers any day.
(Haven't actually tested which performed better, since both were
adequate for my needs at the time.)
