Try changing this to
extra = "3 xencons=tty"

Otherwise the pv frambuffer driver will be used and you can connect to
it using vncviewer.
You're not the first one to stunble across this ...
The hint is actually displayed by the kernel, see below.

Unfortunatly, it's not the last line, so it's somewhat hard to spot.
