Re: [Xen-users] exporting SAS card for using external device

Hi Mark,

For a Windows-based HVM, your best bet is to do some sort of Intel VT-d or AMD IOMMU PCI passthrough.  That would require a motherboard that's VT-d aware (e.g. Intel DQ35JO), and a Xen kernel that's VT-d aware (i.e. Xen 3.2.1).

If you're doing what I think you're doing (i.e. scenario where getting another physical server dedicated for backup; using a VM to do so), you can either use Amanda (Open Community) in a dom0 or PV domU.  But if your heart is set on HVM, you'll need new hardware most likely in the first place to do PCI passthrough.

Good luck!

Hi There,

I was wondering if it is possible to export a LSI SAS card (with
external input) into the windows xp VM I have setup, The plan is to use
a tape drive on it -- has anyone done this before or could point me to
any info?

Debian stable, Xen 3.0.3-1-amd64

Many thanks
Mark
