Point well taken, but I have a couple of applications - even one where HVM is useful - that Atom + Xen works perfectly.  We have some machines that run in our labs that we need to run Linux x86_64 plus the Transitive QuickTransit SPARC -> Intel binary emulator.  On these machines we also want to be able to run a Windows VM.  So, for $500 I can purchase a small Dell Optiplex 160 that has an Intel Atom processor and 2GB of RAM and they work perfectly...all for the price of the processor alone!
