I had major problems using pygrub with karmic guests. Karmic seems to not mind putting /boot into a logical(extended) partition but this is totally useless for pygrub. Also pygrub is not secure at all. So I started using pv-grub and everything just works - no problems at all and it's secure.

Note that pv-grub currently doesn't have support for BZIP2 or LZMA
compressed kernels.

I think it only supports GZIP compressed kernels.

My para-virt guest kernels are embedded and are bzImage type and this works fine.

bzImage is the type, not the compression. I bet your bzImage kernels are
GZIP compressed.

Yes, my kernels are gzip compressed:
CONFIG_KERNEL_GZIP=y

So that's good to know about pv-grub. Hopefully it will grow ability to handle bzip and lzma.
