hi there,

following scenario:

I use XEN 4.0.1, with a bridged networking setup and usb passthrough. That worked fine so far with 2.6.34-xen-r3 in smaller networks with less traffic and broadcast (at home or at university e.g.).

However, if I connect to a larger network, there is not much time after connecting to the network and my host freezes completely.

Information about the network:

* /16 netmask
* 80-600 computers running mostly windows
* i think there is no STP protection active
* the NIC i connect with has an intel e1000 chipset
* the dom0 itself is not really part of that network and is routed outside

If I run mpd to play music, it completely freezes in act and loops the last 1-2 seconds again and again.. I encountered that problem with older 2.6.18 kernel, as well and I am bound to xen-patched kernel instead of pvops because i need usb-passthrough and i don't want to start with another 2.6.18 kernel.

I suspect that the hardware buffer of that e1000 card overflows and xen the system cant handle that.

Any thoughts? Any hints how to solve that?

Sincerly
Nicolas
