Oh okay. Quite annoying though. I'm not sure if this workaround is obvious to every newbie.

Now, I'm able to login to the VM. But the console is clippedÂat the middle section of my 15.6" screen.
However, this problem is non-existent when I open a separate ssh session directly to the vm from my laptop. using : ssh user@<vm's ip address>

And I'll reiterate that xm console is to fix your network so you can ssh into your VM. That's really all I use it for.
