Re: [Xen-users] usb pass through + xen 4.0.1 + centos 5.5 + pvm

Ahh, didn't think of that.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Pasi,

So I would need the pvops kernel (2.6.32) on both dom0 and domU just to
pass a USB port?

Not necessarily. http://xenbits.xen.org/linux-2.6.18-xen.hg
has pvusb drivers for 2.6.18 kernel.

You could compile those with the el5 kernel-xen. Shouldn't be that difficult.

Seems like it would be easier to use KVM as passing a USB port seemed
alot easier according to a quick google.

Xen supports qemu USB passthru to Xen HVM guests without any additional drivers.
It's pretty much the same as what KVM has.

Hi,

Is there any definitive wether USB passthrough works on Xen 4.0.1 and
Centos 5.5 on a PVM really works or not?

Seems like by the many posts I've read, it doesn't.

Any one mind enlightening me.

For PV domUs you need to use pvusb.
pvusb requires *drivers* in both the dom0 kernel, and in the domU
kernel!
(in addition to pvusb support in Xen).
