In most of the setups I've tried I don't use a partition table at all,
the disk image contains a file system directly. You specify them in
the config files as xvda1, xvda2, etc (otherwise exactly the same as
that disk line above). You could try extracting the partitions from
your image file and mounting them this way, and see if that works.
