Alternatively you may also be able to add additional usb devices at runtime with "xl usb_add".

If it's anything more than a keyboard and mouse though you may want to investigate PCI Passthrough, since the HVM qemu-dm only yields USB 1.1.

If you're not bound to xl, I'ld try using xm instead.
