[Xen-users] Windows 7 on passed through nVidia Quadro 4000 working

Hello,

I have decided to purchase the nVidia Quadro 4000 graphics card and tested it on Xen, passed through to a Windows 7 HVM.

I have done this on Xen 4.2.0 with Debian Squeeze on my Dom0. My Dom0 is currently a total mess, with compiling different unstable Xen versions.

This is a quick test to see if VGA-passthrough works correctly.
The Quadro is the secondary GPU on my system, so my config file has gfx_passthru set to 0.
I downloaded the latest drivers from nVidia for this card and installed them via the VNC console, rebooted the VM and switched to the Quadro output on my monitor.
I have also successfully rebooted the VM, and I do not get the BSOD when Windows tries to initialize the graphics card. The only issue I am encountering after the reboot is that the OS seams to be a bit laggy, the mouse is fully responsive, just windows and text (as I am typing) appear to update every 2 seconds, but when I  ran the Windows Experience Test again, the system was normal. Something I will address when I rebuild my whole system.

This is just to inform all readers that the nVidia Quadro works with Xen when passed through to the VM.

If anyone has ideas as to what might be causing the lagging, I would be grateful for any hint(s). Hopefully I will resolve this issue with a new, clean install of Xen and Dom0 on my system.

I will try to put together a little howto when I will 'rebuild' my system.

Regards

Sandi
