Re: [Xen-users] 5+ interface fails -- Ubuntu 16.04, Xen 4.6

Hi All,

Found a "solution" (workaround) in this bug report:

** NOTE: The report suggests using "type=pv", but that is not a supported type in Xen 4.6 (see: http://xenbits.xen.org/docs/4.6-testing/misc/xl-network-configuration.html), so I used "type=vif" for all NICs after the first 4.

Life is good again. Xen still rules.

I have 6 bridge interfaces in my "vif" statement. This worked fine with Ubuntu 12.04 / Xen 4.1.

I've upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 / Xen 4.6. Now when I start the DomU, I get the following in qemu-dm-hostname.log:

"qemu: hardware error: xen: failed to populate ram at..."

If I reduce the number of interfaces in my "vif" statement to 4, everything is fine (but that doesn't solve anything for me).

I see posts from earlier Xen versions (4.4??) where people had success setting: device_model_version = "qemu-xen-traditional". But... I get "device model /usr/lib/xen-4.6/bin/qemu-dm is not executable: No such file or directory". It seems qemu-dm has not be available in Ubuntu since "trusty" (which had it in xen-utils-4.4).

Any suggestions??
