Where functors fall over is the terrible documentation and tooling assistance when faced with using one, and this is being addressed by codoc and Merlin.

just felt like reading an undergraduate essay.

Then there's an opportunity for people to chip in and improve it constructively. I think Hannes ought to be supported for his initiative. It's a start. Hardly anything's perfect from the start. Despite technical shortcomings, undergrads tend to be polite in their essays.
