[Wg-test-framework] Detailed Proposal for Linux Foundation - needs review

Hi all,

the board has approved the proposals provisionally (+10% buffer). However concerns have been raised about the detailed HW list, which MUST be addressed before final board approval. Which I had not seen before the board meeting. The main issue is that there is no balance between Intel and AMD machines. This needs to be addressed.

I attached two mails from board members related to these concerns

Regards
Lars

Lars, Ian, Don & Don

Here is the final proposal or the test server rack.  The numbers are pretty firm, they will vary according to the cable lengths, and any wire management we may need.

Please review and let me know what you think

Hey folks,

I think Sherri's point about having a balanced set of machines is quite
on the spot. I could not find on Dell, nor Lenovo any AMD equipped
servers. Howerver HP, IBM and SuperMicro do carry them.

I would augment the list to have:

PowerEdge R210II
PowerEdge R320
RD340 70AB
DL360P (Gen 8)
                ->      DL385p Gen8

E-3 SUPERMICRO
E-5 Supermicro  ->      A+ Server 1022GG-TF ([ H8DGG-QF ]  )

[unique in that it has two IOMMUs, and built in SR-IOV NICs]

x3550 M4
x3550 M4        ->      I only found one AMD based box ( x3755 M3) which
                        is $11K!
R1304BTLSHBNR
R1304BTLSHBNR
R1208RPOSHOR
R1208RPOSHOR

                -> Those are four Intel whiteboard. Perhaps two
                        of them should be: Cybertron Imperium TSVIAA1162
(TSVIAA1162) AMD
Opteron 6200 Series Processor 6272 8GB RAM 2TB HD No OS

S47 (Quanta) -> I couldn't actually find any images of it.

RD640 70AY
R2308SC2SHFN

ASUS H87MPLUS/CSM
MSI 970A-G46
GS-R11U4S
GS-R12P4S
GS-R12P4G

Any 'R' series Dell server ending in a '5' is AMD I believe. E.g. the R415
which is relatively cheap.
