Right now we just consume the upstream defconfig without any modifications, so my preference would be to try and get them to enable ATA_DMA by default (i.e. by sending a patch). If they don't want to do this for some reason (and those reasons don't apply to us) then we should consider tweaking the config locally. NB many distros want to ship only a single image, so getting this turned on globally would be a better approach.
