Rune, the default xmdefaults file has this disk = [ 'phy:sda%d,sda1,w' % (7+vmid), 'phy:sda6,sda6,r' ] Therefore when you pass vmid=1, it attempts to pass sda8 from dom0 into dom1 as sda1. However, it does not look like you have sdaXX. Therefore, just copy the defaults file and change the above line to disk= [ 'phy:hda1,sda1,w', 'phy:hda2,sda2,w'] where I am assuming that hda2 is your swap partition. Make sure that your /etc/fstab file in your root partition for dom1 has the correct entries to load sda1 as / and sda2 as swap. You can then start a new domain by using xm create -f <new defaults file> vmid=1 Also, just make sure you are not sharing partitions between dom0 and dom1.
