Hi Keir, More clear description of bug #1395 is that "On PAE host, sometimes SMP Linux HVM would stop at booting if timer_mode=0, but it still can respond to keyboard input.". This bug is not a regression. Xen-3.2.2 also has same issue. It should be a bug of timer_mode 0; but it does not always cause SMP Linux HVM booting failure, i.e. sometimes SMP Linux can boot up successfully with timer_mode 0; that's also why we didn't catch this bug out in our 3.2.2 testing.
