I think it is important to separate the "virtio-pci happens to mostly
work for Xen HVM guests" case (which is what you are referring to here)
from the "virtio-xen using the Xen PV interfaces, preserving the useful
security and isolation properties of Xen" (which is being discussed here
and is a topic for future standardisation).
