Hello,I'm testing XenServer 6.5 beta3 on a couple of Dell R220s equipped with a Xeon E3-1220 CPU. During a cold boot the fans speed starts high, then goes to low, then after a while it goes up to high and remains there. Since the boxes are installed in an office environment it would be convenient to have low fan noise so I'm investigating what is happening. The CPU is mostly idle and apparently runs in P15 state at 800 MHz [root@xen1 ~]# xenpm get-cpufreq-states cpu id : 0 total P-states : 16 usable P-states : 16 current frequency : 800 MHz ipmitool sensor reads:Sys Fan1 RPM | 9480.000 | RPM | ok | na | 720.000 | 840.000 | na | na | na Sys Fan2 RPM | 9480.000 | RPM | ok | na | 720.000 | 840.000 | na | na | na Sys Fan3 RPM | 3120.000 | RPM | ok | na | 720.000 | 840.000 | na | na | na Inlet Temp | 24.000 | degrees C | ok | na | -7.000 | 3.000 | 42.000 | 47.000 | na Temp | 26.000 | degrees C | ok | na | 3.000 | 8.000 | 95.000 | 100.000 | na The last reading seems to be the CPU or the motherboard and looks pretty cool. Can you suggest what else can I look at and how to make the fans run at the proper speed? Thank you!
