The first sentence seems slightly mangled.

You seem to have reinvented half of pkg-config.  But it's small, so,
with the docs fix,

(I have only skimread the detailed changes which seem quite
formulaic.  I'm content to commit this early in the 4.7 cycle and work
out the bugs in-tree.)
