Blktap is a user-mode only version of the "backend" for block devices,
which is capable of using asynchronous IO primitives, and it's supposed
to have better performance than the old style block device driver pair,
as well as improved reliability (which is why it was invented).
(unstable) doesn't mean that the blktap is unstable, but rather that
it's available in the unstable version of Xen, of course.
