Switching to nat mode yields the same problem, anyway in the past I
have noticed that my config works for both nat and routed mode, so I
will keep routed mode as it enables me to do more.

I also tested with the following config file:
---
vif = [ 'mac=00:16:3e:00:00:05, ip=10.0.0.5' ]
netmask = "255.255.255.0"
gateway = "10.0.0.132"
---

But it is still the same. I have also noticed in the past that
defining netmask and gateway in the config file of the domU was
useless, well at least for my custom 2.6.25 kernel.
