[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] RE: [Xen-users] How to monitor network usage
In order to see the network usage, you simply need to be going through the PV NIC, so if you are using and HVM domU, you need a PV NIC driver. xm top (xentop) will show the total nettx and netrx in k. I don't know if the k is kilo or kibi & don't know if it's for bytes or bits. I also don't know if virt-manager shows the same information. I do know that on F8 kernel 2.6.21.7-3.fc8xen the vifname function in the config files will prevent these counters from working. Assuming you want more detai than total data used by the domU since startup, you would probably need to run snmp and generate mrtg charts (perhaps the easiest way would be with cacti connecting to the virtual machines to collect the info, but I don't know if I have collected bandwith information over snmp from Linux [normally collect it from cisco]). Regarding capping of bandwith, you might be able to use tc, but I'm not fully sure. You might also search the archives of this list, it seems like there is a parameter some people have been setting in their domU config files to limit bandwidth, but I don't remember what it is. I've been trying to figure out a way to make sure I know how much bandwidth my VM's are using in a quick and easy way. Whether I can script out a report or just log on and look real quickly. So the point of this is what do I need to do to view network usages on my VM's? I don't need the full how to - yet... but just the concept of what is needed so I can view this? My basic assumption is that I need to do my networking differently to get this information. Also nn this point as well, is there any NICE solution to cap bandwidth of a VM? So lets say I want to limit this VM to 100GB, is there anything built into xen to do this? OS Info: CentOS 5 - x86_64 Running Xen from YUM Using virt-manager over VNC Thanks for any help, Charlie _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
