I can use ssh, or xm console, to get in, copy some .desktop files to my user ~/Desktop directory, and then use the cursor keys to select an icon on the desktop, hit return, and launch it. I launched konsole this way, from which I can launch other programs, including X programs (but still can't use a mouse in them.). The odd thing is that Xorg.0.log clearly shows the evdev driver found an input driver for the mouse, but the desktop isn't use it. KDE's systemsettings program didn't help, either: [ 7808.448] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Xen Virtual Pointer (/dev/input/event1) [ 7808.448] (**) Xen Virtual Pointer: Applying InputClass "evdev pointer catchall" [ 7808.448] (**) Xen Virtual Pointer: always reports core events [ 7808.448] (**) Xen Virtual Pointer: Device: "/dev/input/event1" [ 7808.448] (--) Xen Virtual Pointer: Found 12 mouse buttons [ 7808.448] (--) Xen Virtual Pointer: Found scroll wheel(s) [ 7808.448] (--) Xen Virtual Pointer: Found relative axes [ 7808.448] (--) Xen Virtual Pointer: Found x and y relative axes [ 7808.448] (--) Xen Virtual Pointer: Found absolute axes [ 7808.448] (--) Xen Virtual Pointer: Found x and y absolute axes [ 7808.448] (II) Xen Virtual Pointer: Configuring as mouse [ 7808.448] (II) Xen Virtual Pointer: Adding scrollwheel support [ 7808.448] (**) Xen Virtual Pointer: YAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5 [ 7808.448] (**) Xen Virtual Pointer: EmulateWheelButton: 4, EmulateWheelInertia: 10, EmulateWheelTimeout: 200 [ 7808.448] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Xen Virtual Pointer" (type: MOUSE) [ 7808.448] (**) Xen Virtual Pointer: (accel) keeping acceleration scheme 1 [ 7808.448] (**) Xen Virtual Pointer: (accel) acceleration profile 0 [ 7808.448] (**) Xen Virtual Pointer: (accel) acceleration factor: 2.000 [ 7808.448] (**) Xen Virtual Pointer: (accel) acceleration threshold: 4 [ 7808.448] (II) Xen Virtual Pointer: initialized for relative axes.
