Re: [Publicity] [FOSDEM-Devrooms] Xen Project Virtualization Dev Room Proposal for FOSDEM 14

Hi
Lars,
The existing proposal came from Thierry Carrez
<thierry@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>,
indeed under the condition that similar projects would
collaborate.
All virtualization related proposals (including yours) have been
grouped in our system and will be evaluated as if they were one.
Gerry, I reached out to Thierry. We came to the conclusion that we
could have a joint DevRoom, but that it would pretty much an
OpenStack devroom, with a little bit of virtualization stuff in it.
I also reached out to the QEMU & KVM community, OpenDayLight,
RedHat and Renzo Davoli, as well as Linaro (no response yet). We
came to the conclusion, that there is a lot of collaboration
potential amongst virtualization projects. More so than in previous
years. So we would like to stick with a Virtualization DevRoom;
maybe a smaller one that the 500 people auditorium; which makes real
collaboration hard. All the others got caught out by the (earlier?)
deadline this year; I nearly did too. So we would like to change the
DevRoom to a General Virtualization DevRoom and just take the risk
of not getting accepted. I would be happy to change description,
etc. I will probably be able to pull more virt projects in, given
time.
Best Regards
Lars

I won't be at FOSDEM but I expect there would be a strong interest
among the KVM and QEMU communities. I will definitely help
advertise!

Hi Lars,
The Virt DevRoom was a model of cross-project collaboration last
year,
and was quite full all day. What would they like to see improved?
I missed the devroom submission deadline this year, but would be
happy
to be involved in a virt DevRoom again - and either myself or Rich
Bowen
(CCed) could help putting together a Cloud DevRoom too.
Let me know what you want to do! If you want me, I'm yours for a
separate virt room - I see a lot of potential there too.
Cheers,
Dave?

Hi Lars,
OpenDaylight will be having it's first full Summit on
February 4-5 in Santa Clara (2 days after FOSDEM), so I think it
will be hard to commit resources to FOSDEM (as much as we think
this would be an excellent opportunity).
ASIDE (Lars): I believe that there should be enough developers in
the EU despite the summit, who wont make it to Santa Clara

I have missed the devroom deadline this year.
Anyway I can contribute with the new developments on VDE and View-OS.
My preference is for a specific smaller virtualization devroom to discuss
"lower down the stack" projects.
In case of a merge, we could use "time division" instead of "space division".
If we have the dev room for an entire day (like in 2013) we could split the two
kinds of projects between morning and afternoon.
IMHO the choice of two dev-rooms would be more appropriate.
