In my case (on the vm I have tested so far) I needed

    Option "IgnoreAbsoluteAxes" "False"

which made it work, because the X server guesses correctly, though adding
    Option "IgnoreRelativeAxes" "True"
and/or
    Option "Mode" "Absolute"
as well stops the guesswork.
