Nothing is stopping them doing this, but the deb target in the xen tree
is not aimed at them.

The current deb target does exactly what it was intended to do, no more
and no less. It does not do half a job at its intended goal. Note that
it's goal is not and never was to provide a completely usable package
for end users.

Because the deb target is a "removable tarball" nothing more. Do you
expect that a tarball would do this?

Do you expect that this deb package should also frob your bootloader
configuration? What about setting up bridged networking? Where do we
draw the line?

If we cannot agree on this then I propose we remove the existing deb
target, since I don't think a full and proper .deb (or .rpm or ebuild or
xxx) packaging has any place in the main Xen tree, that is what the
distros are for. Otherwise we are going to be constantly rehashing these
same old arguments -- we've already been over this more than once in
this very thread!
