That is true.
However Slackware can install and remove them (even though I understand
not many people are going to benefit from it).
alien can convert those tgz into a deb or an rpm. Overall it certainly
wouldn't be an improvement for Debian users, but after all they are not
the target anyway.

Right, that would be a step forward. Something that make it clear that
it isn't a proper deb.
