Re: [Xen-users] PV- Drivers for Windows (XP, 2003 Server)

Hi all,

The problem is that each vendor ends up with its own version of windows PV drivers.

Wouldn't the world be better with one set of Windows paravirtual drivers?

Because XenSource / Novell have an agreement with Microsoft they use the drivers in the commercial products, AFAIK Microsoft virtual server ( Hyper V / Vridian) (they have a beta release) is also a paravirtual platform, maybe in the next version of windows we will have a build-in PV drivers .

You're right - my mistake. ÂThey also have a non-Xen-based virtual server product (akin to VMware Server), so I think I was getting those confused.

VirtualIron is Xen based product like XenSource. They suggest the installation of VI tools which add couple of devices include network device on Windows. Correct if I am wrong.

Thank you.

Yes, but these are likely for VirtualIron's virtualization product and not XEN PV drivers for HVM domUs.

Thank you.

You can search for the Open Source HVM drivers, but I don't think anything stable has come out, yet.ÂÂThe only other PV drivers that I know about for Windows are commercially available (read: NOT free)Â- these are Novell's PV drivers for Windows and NetWare, and XenSource's PV drivers.ÂÂAgain,ÂÂboth of those are commercial products - in Novell's case you must purchase SLES10 to get the PV driver pack.ÂÂNot sure about the XenSource ones...
