usbip is independent from xen as far as I know. I'm running a regular kernel 
from gentoo-sources which has the required modules. Gentoo also packages the 
necessary userland tools. The "usbip" package for the userland part says 
"homepage: http://www.kernel.org/";. The package is marked unstable, hence the 
clunkyness I guess.  I'll look up the specifics when I'm back at my system in a 
couple of days.
